The coach sits besides John to lend support. A great day for the coach is when they do not provide any assistance to John during his work. Work unfolds routinely from left to right. The jig visually describes what is to be packaged and how many of each distinct part. In the example of Task 4, one of each lid and eight shaker pegs. John matches each lid to the drawings depicted and pushes each peg into the existing holes. Since John’s ability to write the number four on a label is not fully developed, his coach has done so. S/he places ten numbered labels on the table (not pictured), next to the roll of bags. Once John has completed the jig, he takes a bag from the roll, places it on one that has been affixed to the table with label in appropriate spot, takes a numbered label and sticks it over the visible label. Match, Match! After John puts what’s on the jig into the labeled bag, he then slides the end of the bag down the tape machine (after a twist/twist of bag) and tosses it (this is up to the discretion of the worker and coach) into the finished box. The packaged bag is complete and John has accomplished all this independently, his only aid being the appropriate visual structure and organization that has been provided for him. When ten bags have been completed, John knows to put everything back on the shelving unit where he initially got it from, again matching designated colors. He goes on to do the remaining three packaging Tasks in the same manner. The bottom image on his clipboard is Home, which is where he will go after a job well done!
